Built using the SMBX2 engine, with light additional scripting in Lua.
Initial Release: May 5, 2020
Definitive Edition Release: June 21, 2021
This was my first full game release, developed entirely solo over the span of roughly 3 months.
Designed all 7 levels.
Wrote all story, dialogue, and lore.
Programmed the player progression system as well as every cutscene.
Since it was my first time around, this game heavily relied on outside assets and scripting libraries.
About a year after the initial launch, I released a large "Definitive Edition" update that polished up many areas of the game including level design, UI, and difficulty balancing. In addition, I added several new cutscenes for more exposition, as well as a post-game level for player's who found all the collectibles.
This game takes place in the same universe and during the same time period as Luigi's Lost Memories, and outlines Mario's activity during the events of that game. An interplanetary threat is taking aim at the player's home planet, but the plans for this attack were discovered before the initial assault was launched. This allows the player to gain an advantage against the enemy by preemptively traveling to their planet, aptly named "Purple Planet", and destroying the operation from within. This explains why the adventure is so short, because there isn't a significant conflict that occurs considering the player caught wind of the assault before it even started.

IMPORTANT: Due to the nature of SMBX2, which builds on top the original SMBX executable by directly modifying memory addresses, some antivirus software may mark the download as malicious. This is a false positive.
Note that I operate under the alias "Chipss" as a developer, and will be referred to as such in the credits of each game.
